Here Are The Technology Requirements & Must-Knows:
Don't Panic! Ok, now before you actually read the requirements, I know some of us have tech-overwhelm which is totally understandable - I did too! Which is why I'm provided you with simple, clear instructions. I have already figured it all out for you, so that you have nothing to worry about! Simply review and follow my exact instructions and everything will run smoothly for you! Zoom is very user-friendly and easy to use!
Alright, here's what you need (and no skipping, please read this in it's entirety to optimize your workshop experience)...
Quick Summary:
Internet Connection, Email Address, Computer or laptop, Camera (Internal Camera or Webcam), adequate lighting, time to test tech before workshop - If you have this, you're good to go!
A few More Details:
1. A stable internet connection so that you can participate in the Confidence Workshop party which will be hosted in zoom.
2. An email address where you will receive the Confidence Workshop details.
- You will need to regularly check your inbox for a series of reminder & preparation emails leading up to your Confidence Workshop, to ensure that you are ready for your session (including the date, time and zoom link). Look for emails from The Lifesaving Coach (check your spam folder if you do not see them).
3. A computer or laptop.
4. A computer camera or webcam:
- *Computer Camera: you can use the internal camera that is built into your computer or laptop; you just need the ability to angle it down so that you can practice CPR and your skills can be seen.
OR
- *Webcam: you can use an external webcam; which you can position appropriately to demonstrate your CPR skills
*See demonstration in the above video
5. Do NOT use virtual backgrounds, as these will not work when you are demonstrating your CPR skills.
6. Ensure you have adequate lighting so that you can be seen - daylight from a nearby window or some bright lights are recommended.
7. You should test your technology PRIOR to the Confidence Workshop. Test your technology a week to a few days in advance to ensure your technology is working, as well as 15 minutes prior to your Confidence Workshop. Ensure your camera/webcam, video, lighting, audio, volume and internet connection are all working properly. You can test this in zoom for free. Simply go to zoom.com, set up a free zoom meeting with just yourself, and test out your technology, and how you can best position yourself with your camera so that you can be seen during the skills practice session. Please note, this is an optional step. You do NOT need a zoom account to join - you'll simply click on the provided zoom link to join (easy peasy), but I'm giving you an option to try it out in advance if you want to (in case you suffer from the fear of technology - it's really simple, I promise!) :)
8. To ensure an optimal viewing experience in the Zoom Confidence Workshop, prior to joining the workshop, please close down all windows and apps and other programs running on your computer. Zoom takes up a lot of bandwidth, so it is best to not have many things open and running on your computer at once. Also joining from a laptop or computer will definitely provide the best experience over any other devices. All of m videos have been tested on my end and with participants to ensure they do NOT lag, and they don't. However, to ensure they don't lag on your end, please ensure you shut down all unnecessary programs and that you have a strong internet connection - even sitting close to your router can help!
9. You can join the Confidence Workshop via your zoom link up to 5 minutes prior to the start time. Please join the Confidence Workshop with your video ON and you mic OFF (no audio). You will be placed in a waiting room with a screen that says Baby CPR & Choking Confidence Workshop, and you might be asked to enter your name - please enter the same name you registered with so that it can be verified before admission. Inside the Confidence Workshop, instructions will be provided about when to turn your mic on to ask questions. The Confidence Workshop is pre-set for all participants to enter with their mics muted, so don't worry if you forget to mute you mic in advance!
10. When you are admitted into the zoom workshop, you will receive a notification that this workshop is being recorded (as mentioned in the agreement at checkout). You will simply click that you are ok with this, and you will be entered into the Confidence Workshop with your video on and your mic muted.
11. Once you're admitted into the zoom Confidence Workshop, you will see a dashboard of functions. Please do NOT use these until directed to avoid interruptions. Some of the features are inactive, but can't be removed from the menu bar. Here are the highlights of what you need to know about your menu bar...
- Mic: should be muted

Yes there might be some times where you need to briefly turn it off, but it should be on for the majority of the workshop - don't worry, this is a safe place for parents & caregivers!

What you need to know about the presentation of the workshop from The Lifesaving Coach
I just want to let you in on the behind-the scenes! On my end, I'm actually running a pretty complex presentation in order to provide an interactive experience. I won't got into too much detail, but I have a dual monitor set up, where on one screen I'm setting up and sharing slides and videos or a simple talking head view, and on a second large screen I can see all of you (the participants) at once, so that when you demonstrate your skills, I can watch and coach you live. There is also a live demo station, where I will show you skills, just like an instructor would do in an in-person classroom setting - pretty cool right!?
What this means for you, is you will see a lot of movement and action. I can't always look straight into the camera, as my role is to set up and share slides and videos and monitor skills, so you will see me looking at my computer or looking to the side at the other monitor - this is NOT your average zoom meeting with just talking heads! You will also see me moving positions - sometimes I'll turn off my camera during a move, and sometimes it will be on. So get ready for lots of action in this zoom workshop. It is NOT meant to look pretty, it is meant to give you a transformation - from panicked to confident - and that's what matters! (but I wanted you to know about this, as you have likely not experienced a zoom session like this!) So buckle up, as you'll be moving in this workshop and NOT just sitting and watching! This is also why, if your baby will be with you, you need a bouncy chair or a car seat for example close by, so that you can safely secure baby while you practice your skills.
Also, just so you know, sometimes you will see my video blur. I'm using a high quality webcam, but it has a tendency to blur for a few seconds when there is a lot of movement in order to refocus properly - so just ignore the momentary blur!
Oh and 1 FINAL IMPORTANT NOTE:
This workshop is launching in March, which means, March will be my first time running these workshops virtually in zoom. So be aware that it will take me some time to optimize my zoom skills in a live setting. So please be kind and respectful, as we will all be learning new skills in March! I have been an CPR instructor for 30 years in a classroom setting, but NOT in a zoom setting! Wish me luck! I will appreciate your feedback after the workshop so that I can continue to enhance this virtual workshop for parents that join in the future, from anywhere - since this creates limitless geography for all parents to participate and gain confidence! Thank you! I can't wait to see you there - it's going to be a great experience!
